The IELTS Test Taker’s Guide to College Application in
Canada
IELTS is
accepted by over 350 universities and colleges in Canada. If you’re planning to
pursue your undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a Canadian university, then
read and follow these three practical steps:
Step 1: Choose your preferred
institution and study program
Canada is home
to some of the most elite universities in the world. In fact, 26 Canadian
universities are in the QS World University Rankings 2019. When choosing your desired institution
and study program, make a list of the top five Canadian universities that
accept IELTS test scores. Read and evaluate each institution based on their
academic reputations, study programs, facilities, location, and security. Then
choose at least two to three universities to increase your chances of getting
the best Canadian university.
Step 2: Prepare and send your
application
After you have
picked your preferred university, find out on their website what the college
admission requirements are and how are you going to process your application.
Although application rules vary across Canadian universities, it is still
essential to consider the following points:
·
Eligibility
Graduation
from a secondary school and remarkable academic standing are typically the two
minimum requirement to prove that you’re eligible to enroll in a Canadian
university.
·
Documents
You
need to supply official documents such as:
§
transcripts
from secondary or postsecondary school,
§
ID
documents,
§
proof
of language proficiency exam, and
§
other
academic records.
Maximize
your IELTS review preparation to secure your
proof of language proficiency.
·
Application process and deadline
Once
you have accomplished the requirements, it’s time to send your application. There
are two ways to send your application. You can apply through a central
application service or send your application directly to the university. Check
the website of your preferred institution to determine their college
application process.
College
application deadline depends on the institution that you are applying for.
However, it is advisable that you should send your application at least 8 to 12
months in advance.
Step 3: Process your student permit
After sending
your application, you must wait for the letter of acceptance from your desired
Canadian university. Once you’ve received the letter, it’s time to process your
student permit. There are two ways to apply for a student permit. You can apply
online or submit a paper application to the Canadian visa office. Visit the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) website to know more about the student
visa application.
