Paraphrasing Tip 1: Use Synonyms
Using synonyms
is the simplest way to paraphrase a sentence. In this paraphrasing tip, replace
words in the sentence with new words that have the same meaning. For example:
Original Sentence: It
is difficult to find a suitable place to study the
IELTS lectures.
Paraphrased Sentence: It
is hard to look for a proper place to learn the
IELTS lectures.
To avoid any
errors, make sure that you only use a synonym for any word if you are 100%
certain that the new word has 100% the same meaning as the original word.
Paraphrasing Tip 2: Change the word
forms
This
paraphrasing tip requires you to replace some of the words in the original
sentence into different parts of speech. You can change a noun into a verb, or
an adjective into a noun. Check these examples:

Noun to Verb
Original
sentence: There are some people who think
that Facebook has invaded our privacy.
Paraphrased
sentence: There are some people think Facebook is
an invasion of privacy.

Adjective to Noun
Original sentence: Americans find watching late night shows
interesting.
Paraphrased sentence: Americans have an interest in watching late night
shows.
Paraphrasing Tip 3: Rearrange the order
of words
The last
paraphrasing tip involves reordering the words in the sentence. There are two
ways to change the sentence structure; changing the order of the clauses, and
changing the sentence from active to passive voice or vice versa. Read and
follow these examples:
Original
sentence: In the Philippines, Boracay is
known as the tropical paradise of Aklan.
There are two
clauses in this sentence separated by a comma. To paraphrase, simply rearrange
these clauses and remove the comma.
Paraphrased
sentence: Boracay is known as the tropical
paradise of Aklan in the Philippines.

Active and passive voice
Original sentence: The
earthquake destroyed the city. (Active)
To change this
sentence to passive voice, rearrange the subject (earthquake) and the object
(city) in the sentence. Then replace the verb (destroyed) into past perfect
tense (was destroyed).
Paraphrased sentence: The
city was destroyed by the earthquake. (Passive)
